Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Assisting with personal care tasks including washing, dressing, toileting, and oral hygiene, always maintaining dignity and respect.
  • Supporting with mobility, including the safe use of hoists, wheelchairs, and other aids, following all manual handling protocols.
  • Helping with feeding and hydration, monitoring nutritional intake, and reporting any concerns to senior staff.
  • Providing reassurance, companionship, and emotional support to individuals, promoting their mental wellbeing.
  • Taking and recording vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration rate, and blood pressure accurately.
  • Assisting qualified nurses with clinical procedures under supervision, ensuring a sterile and safe environment.
  • Maintaining clean and tidy ward/care home environments, including bed-making and tidying personal spaces.
  • Handling linen, equipment, and supplies according to infection control policies.
  • Building positive, professional relationships with service users, their families, and visitors.

Essential Skills & Requirements

  • Proven Experience: Minimum of 6 months experience in a similar care role (NHS, care home, supported living). Relevant vocational qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care) are a significant advantage.
  • Compassion & Resilience: A genuine passion for helping others, coupled with the emotional resilience needed for a demanding but fulfilling role. You must be patient, kind, and respectful.
