The role of a Learning Support Assistant is dynamic and varied. You will work closely with class teachers and SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators) to implement individual education plans (IEPs), provide one-to-one or small group support, and foster an inclusive learning atmosphere. Your contribution will be instrumental in building students' confidence, independence, and academic skills.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Provide direct one-to-one support to students with identified special educational needs, including those with autism (ASD), ADHD, dyslexia, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
• Assist in the implementation and monitoring of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), providing regular feedback to the class teacher and SENCO.
• Support students within the classroom to help them access the curriculum, which may involve adapting tasks, providing scribing or reading support, and using specialist resources.
• Foster positive relationships with students, promoting their emotional well-being, social skills, and independence.
• Assist with personal care needs where required, always adhering to safeguarding policies and procedures.
• Help to prepare and organise learning materials and maintain a safe, stimulating, and orderly learning environment.
• Supervise students during breaks, lunchtimes, and on educational visits as needed.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and contribute to written reports for parents and other professionals.

Essential Requirements & Skills

• Relevant Experience: Previous experience working with children or young adults, particularly those with SEN, is highly desirable. This could be in a school, nursery, care setting, or through voluntary work.
• Personal Qualities: Patience, empathy, resilience, and a positive, can-do attitude are paramount. You must be a reliable and proactive team player.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with students, teachers, parents, and external agencies.
• Initiative & Adaptability: The ability to think on your feet, adapt to changing situations, and use your initiative to support learning.
• Safeguarding Awareness: A clear understanding of, and commitment to, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. A valid, enhanced DBS check is required (we can assist with this).
• Qualifications: While formal qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning) are advantageous, a genuine passion and transferable skills are equally valued.
