Key Responsibilities & Duties

In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of accounts, employing a blend of communication skills, negotiation tactics, and regulatory knowledge to achieve positive outcomes. Your day-to-day tasks will include:

• Proactive Account Management: Contacting customers via telephone, email, and letter regarding overdue payments in a professional and compliant manner, adhering strictly to FCA guidelines and treating customers fairly.
• Negotiation & Arrangement Setting: Working empathetically with customers facing financial difficulty to establish sustainable repayment plans, considering individual circumstances while protecting the client's interests.
• Dispute Resolution & Investigation: Investigating and resolving queries or disputes that may be causing payment delays, liaising with internal departments to gather necessary information and provide clear resolutions.
• Data Accuracy & System Updates: Maintaining meticulous records of all customer interactions, payment arrangements, and account statuses within the company's CRM system, ensuring data integrity for reporting and compliance.
• Target Achievement & Reporting: Working towards individual and team collection targets, providing regular updates to the Team Leader on portfolio performance, and identifying trends or areas for process improvement.
• Customer Service Excellence: Providing a high standard of customer service, even in challenging conversations, aiming to preserve customer relationships and uphold the company's reputation.

Candidate Requirements & Ideal Profile

The successful candidate will be resilient, articulate, and possess a natural aptitude for negotiation and problem-solving. While full training on specific systems and procedures will be provided, a foundational understanding of collections is essential.

• Proven Collections Experience: At least 6-12 months of experience in a collections, debt recovery, or credit control role within a regulated environment (financial services, utilities, telecoms).
• Exceptional Communication Skills: Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities, with the confidence to handle difficult conversations calmly and professionally.
• Resilience & Tenacity: The mental fortitude to maintain performance and a positive attitude in a target-driven environment, learning from setbacks without becoming discouraged.
• Numeracy & IT Proficiency: Strong numerical skills for calculating payments and interest, coupled with good IT literacy (MS Office, CRM systems).
• Regulatory Awareness: A working understanding of FCA CONC rules and the principles of Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) is highly desirable.
