Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties

As a Warehouse Assistant in Salford, your day will be varied and active. You will be expected to:

• Accurate Picking and Packing: Use handheld RF scanners or pick lists to accurately select products from shelves for customer orders, ensuring zero errors in a fast-paced environment.
• Loading and Unloading: Safely load and unload goods from delivery vehicles using manual handling techniques or equipment like pump trucks, maintaining strict health and safety standards.
• Stock Control and Replenishment: Conduct regular stock checks, report discrepancies, and replenish picking faces to ensure inventory accuracy and availability. This role shares similarities with our Immediate Stock Replenisher positions in terms of maintaining inventory flow.
• Operating Machinery (with certification): For suitable candidates, operating warehouse machinery such as Counterbalance Forklifts (FLT), Reach Trucks, or PPTs to move, stack, and retrieve pallets.
• Maintaining a Clean & Safe Workspace: Adhere to 5S principles, keeping aisles clear, workstations tidy, and reporting any potential hazards immediately to the line manager.
• Quality Control: Perform visual inspections of goods for damage, ensuring only perfect products are dispatched to customers.
• Team Collaboration: Work effectively as part of a team to meet daily targets and deadlines, supporting colleagues during peak periods.

Essential Skills & Requirements

To be successful in this Warehouse Assistant role, you should possess the following:

• Proven Experience: Previous experience in a warehouse, distribution, or similar manual handling role is highly advantageous.
• Physical Fitness & Stamina: The ability to stand for long periods, lift and move goods safely (following manual handling guidelines), and work in a physically demanding environment.
• Reliability & Punctuality: A strong work ethic, excellent timekeeping, and a commitment to seeing tasks through to completion. This is as crucial here as it is for an Casual Labourer on construction sites.
• Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail to ensure order accuracy, correct labelling, and high standards of work.
