Core Responsibilities & Daily Duties

In this leadership role, you will be the linchpin of the housekeeping department, ensuring seamless operations and exemplary service. Your day-to-day tasks will be varied and impactful.

• Team Leadership & Coordination: Directly supervise a team of housekeeping attendants, room attendants, and cleaners. Conduct daily briefings, allocate tasks and zones efficiently, and ensure the team has the necessary supplies and equipment.
• Quality Control & Inspections: Perform rigorous room and public area inspections against a detailed checklist. Ensure all cleaned rooms meet the company's five-star standards for presentation, hygiene, and amenities before being released for guest occupancy.
• Inventory & Supply Management: Take charge of linen, toiletries, and cleaning material stock levels. Place orders with suppliers, manage par levels, and control costs to prevent waste while ensuring the team never runs out of essential items.
• Training & Development: Train new team members on cleaning procedures, chemical safety (COSHH), and brand standards. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and provide coaching to enhance team performance and guest satisfaction scores.
• Guest Liaison & Problem-Solving: Proactively interact with guests to address any housekeeping-related queries or special requests promptly and professionally. Turn potential complaints into positive experiences through effective resolution.
• Administration & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of room status, staff hours, incident reports, and maintenance issues. Use property management systems (PMS) to update room availability and provide end-of-shift reports to the Head Housekeeper or General Manager.
• Health & Safety Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and sanitation regulations. Conduct regular risk assessments, ensure safe storage of chemicals, and promote safe working practices for all team members.

Essential Skills & Experience Required

To excel as a Housekeeping Supervisor in Birmingham's competitive hospitality scene, you will need a blend of practical experience and soft skills. We are looking for candidates who embody professionalism and leadership.

• Proven Supervisory Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a housekeeping supervisory or team leader role within a hotel, hospital, large-scale residential facility, or corporate cleaning environment.
• In-depth Cleaning Knowledge: Expert understanding of cleaning techniques, sanitation standards, and the safe use of industrial cleaning equipment and chemicals.
• Leadership & Communication: Excellent people-management skills with the ability to motivate, delegate, and provide constructive feedback. Fluent in English, both verbal and written.
• Organisational Prowess: Outstanding time-management and organisational skills. Ability to prioritise a dynamic workload in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
• Tech & Systems Savvy: Comfortable using basic computer software (e.g., MS Office, email) and ideally experience with hotel operating systems like Opera, Fidelio, or similar.
• Flexibility & Reliability: Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends, early mornings, and occasional late finishes, as required by the business. A reliable and punctual nature is non-negotiable.
