Job Description: HGV Class 1 Driver

Key Responsibilities & Duties

Core Driving & Delivery Tasks

  • Safely operating a Category C+E (Class 1) HGV/LGV for trunking and multi-drop deliveries.
  • Conducting daily vehicle checks (walkaround checks) and reporting any defects promptly.
  • Planning efficient routes, adhering to delivery schedules, and managing tachograph records (digital and analogue) in full compliance with Drivers' Hours and Working Time Regulations.
  • Securing loads using straps, chains, and curtain-siders as required, ensuring cargo integrity and safety during transit.

Customer & Compliance Duties

  • Interacting professionally with customers, site security, and warehouse staff during loading/unloading.
  • Completing all necessary delivery paperwork, PODs (Proof of Delivery), and consignment notes accurately.
  • Maintaining excellent personal and vehicle hygiene, representing both the client and HireNow to a high standard.
  • Adhering to all site-specific health and safety rules, including wearing correct PPE at all times.

Essential Requirements & Qualifications

Mandatory Licences & Documents

    A valid UK Category C+E (Class 1) driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points (and no DR, DG, or TT99 endorsements).

    A current, valid Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) card with 35 hours of periodic training recorded.

    A Digital Tachograph Card in your name.

Experience & Personal Attributes

  • A
    Minimum of 6 months recent Class 1 driving experience in the UK. Experience with curtainsiders, reefers, or flatbeds is highly advantageous.

    A strong, demonstrable commitment to health and safety and safe working practices.

    Excellent communication skills, reliability, and a professional attitude. Ability to work independently and as part of a wider logistics team.
  • D
    Right to work in the UK documentation. Some roles may require a pass to security clearance.
