Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties
Your role as a Teaching Assistant will be diverse and impactful. You will be instrumental in supporting both the class teacher and individual pupils to ensure every child can access the curriculum and achieve their potential.
- Provide direct classroom support: Work under the direction of the class teacher to prepare learning materials, set up equipment, and assist in the delivery of engaging lessons for individuals, small groups, and the whole class.
- Support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND): Implement tailored learning plans (EHCPs), provide one-to-one support, and use adaptive strategies to help children with diverse needs overcome barriers to learning.
- Promote positive behaviour and wellbeing: Model and encourage positive social interactions, help resolve minor conflicts, and provide a safe, nurturing environment that supports the emotional and social development of all pupils.
- Assess and monitor pupil progress: Observe pupils, record their achievements and challenges, and provide clear, constructive feedback to the teacher to help inform future planning and interventions.
- Assist with administrative and pastoral tasks: This may include supervising pupils during breaks and outings, assisting with personal care where necessary, and helping to maintain a tidy, organised, and resource-rich classroom environment.
What We're Looking For (Essential & Desirable Criteria)
The ideal candidate will be resilient, adaptable, and genuinely committed to child development. While formal qualifications are beneficial, the right attitude and practical experience are highly valued.
- Proven experience: Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or in a similar child-facing role within a UK school setting is essential.
- Relevant qualifications: A Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, CACHE Diploma, or equivalent is highly desirable. GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above are required.
- Core competencies: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, patience, empathy, creativity, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Practical requirements: An enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one), and the right to work in the UK. Knowledge of the primary National Curriculum and safeguarding procedures is a must.
